The Garuda’s Cry

Dorje Shapiro Thriller #1

In 1995, the Chinese government abducted Tibet’s newly recognized Panchen Lama, a five year old, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, who along with his entire family, were never heard from again.  The Panchen Lama is crucial in Tibetan Buddhism, because it is he who must identify the next Dalai Lama.

23 years later, with an aging Dalai Lama and continued Chinese attempts to undermine the Tibetans in full force, there are rumors the Panchen Lama is not only still alive, but has been stolen out of China in a clandestine operation.

Former NSA Analyst, Elliot Shapiro, whose extraordinary ability to synthesize gathered data had elevated him to the top of his field, is enlisted by his former boss to investigate the situation. His operation is not only off the books, it is completely unsanctioned in this current political environment in which the Tibetans have been totally abandoned by the US Government. He has been asked to take this assignment for a number of reasons: his heightened critical capabilities, his nearly psychic faculties, and the fact that he has been a practicing Buddhist for nearly 20 years. It was an assignment he couldn’t refuse.
